This past Sunday finally saw the official tap-off of the much-anticipated WP Touch Regional’s Tournament. A tourney which is being used to attract and develop new players – whilst keeping the older generation on their toes. Sunday showed that the level of touch and the competitiveness was definitely on the increase. No more laxidasical half-hearted touch was played but rather highly spirited and intense displays of the touch we all love. 6 down touch. “Touch what a game!”

The Regional Tournament

This weekend saw the tap-off of the WPTA’s (Western Province Touch Association) latest initiative to grow the game of touch in the Western Cape. Similar to the Super rugby tournament this competition will play host to the plethora of talent nestled away in the suburbia of the mother city. 4 teams will battle it out for top honours in a 7-8 week period to determine which region is the top dog. Bragging rights are rather important in the game of touch, it’s like stepping a whole team (off both feet). Already there are signs of this being an extremely competitive tourney on and off the field, as the standard of the game is on the up and certain regions are looking for resources and players in every nook and cranny.
