Okay, here is blog post number two! Following on from the last one, I just have a few points to raise regarding what can – and might one day – go into professionalising the sport from a team’s point of view.

Organisation (Teams):

To cover the above, players/teams are often required to pay a registration fee. (So for any number of reasons, this can vary a great deal. A membership/affiliation cost to the event organisers is thus not perhaps unreasonable.)

Team administration may mirror event administration for a number of things, such as (more…)

New writer Liam Wantenaar:

So here begins a stab at this weblog thing, or ‘blogging’. You know, voicing an opinion on the interwebs. Well, there is often a lot to say on any given topic, so I’m going to try to tackle one or two topics with a stab of intelligence. They’ll be broken up into greater or lesser segments. The first topic covered in next few posts produced by this little blogger machine are going to be on touch rugby and the amateur/professionalism divide in South Africa.

Amateur sport vs. Professional sport

So, ‘professionalism’ implies money. But money for what and whom? A professional athlete gets paid to play, paid to perform. And all games/sports obviously  do not happen without participants, or players right? BUT, to get to the point at which a game actually happens, the match has to be prepared for and the teams playing in it have to be organised. This all has to happen before anyone sets (more…)

Where have we been?

Posted: January 26, 2013 by Blackie in General

After a year of not blogging and focusing on other things in life we have finally decided to give blogging another go (“give him another chance”) and get some blog posts up and hopefully spread the word of touch, anyway we can. We going to be blogging about all things touch.

If we were to tell you that we had taken a 1-year hiatus from the sport we so dearly love, that wouldn’t be a lie but it would be far from the truth. Dare I say the dormant beast has a awoken. 2011 was a hectic year in our touch calendar with the Touch World Cup in June, all the training that was necessary for it and all the other social touch that went on. 2012 we decided to take it easy and focus on other things such as varsity, friends, family and what ever else you can conjure up. On that note, congrats to Plimmy who graduated and is now officially a big boy. We still played social touch and competed in the Senior Inter-Provincial Tournament and social leagues around the Cape Town area.

2013 is the year of touch, there is a Senior IPT around the corner and at that IPT the squad for the 2015 Touch World Cup will be selected. We will be taking you on the journey of getting fit and ready for the tournament and we will be sure to blog about all things touch.

We going to keep this one short and sweet because we’ve pretty much forgot how to write a witty well-worded body of text. One thing is for sure we’ll be putting fun, informative and entertaining blogs up.

Touch is Life.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,900 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

The Correlation Between Touch and Rugby

In this post we take a look at the correlation between rugby rankings and touch rankings in an attempt to find a relationship. Rankings were taken from the official International Rugby Board (IRB) and latest Touch World Cup earlier this year from each website respectively. After watching the pool games of the current Rugby World Cup (RWC) I began to question (more…)

A Vibe at the 2oceans.

It was unfathomably early in the morning of the 23rd a chilly Saturday when I was awoken by a very loud limited playlist of Adele and Owl City on repeat and a witty/enthusiastic commentator at the start of the 2oceans race. Hope you can grasp how this startled me. Not a big problem as a couple of mates and I had decided that we were going to do the whole “breaky” on the side of the road and cheer all the runners on. A quick point on the competitiveness or actually the lack thereof of some of the runners – when we were walking to the car the starting gun had already sounded and some athletes (possible mathletes) were still chilling and meandering in the general direction of the starting line. Odd! Well … We surged on (more…)

Dustbin Chronicles

In Durbz, watching the ladies play while perching on a dustbin.

Well guys and gals, this is us the 2 newest bloggers on the street. Some might look at us and say “WOAH, you guys look like stereotypical buff rugby players”. That we are and so much more, not only do we play TOUCH rugby we also now own our our very on website/blog. This blog will be a light-hearted look at the ins and outs, ups and downs, smiles and frowns (I took that from Snoop Dogg – word up!) of touch rugby in South Africa and more specifically in the Cape Town Area. Not only will we be blogging about the training, touch-rugby-living and touch-spilunking but also about the 3 teams in which we find ourselves. Firstly our “club” team, the ever so mighty PCH, secondly the Western Province Mens A Team and most importantly the South African Mens Open Team which is competing in the world cup in June this year.

Thats all for now, I still need to get used to this…

“Touch and go shortside…”
